Earn Credits

Most of our students receive approval for course credits by having their departments or colleges examine the syllabi and look at the CVs of our faculty.  The syllabi and faculty CVs are available on our website or through an email request.   Students from colleges and universities across the US and Canada have taken these courses offered in the past and received credit from them.

Our educational partner, Sacred Heart College (SHC), shc.edu.bz, in San Ignacio, Belize, is licensed and recognized by the government of Belize.  Under the United Nations convention on the Recognition of Studies, Diplomas and Degrees in Higher Education (go to www.unesco.org and search under name of convention), which both the US and Belize have signed,   the US recognizes the higher education institutions of Belize.   You can confirm Sacred Heart College on the Ministry of Education website:  moe.gov.bz.  SHC will register our international students, record their grade(s), and issue transcripts to the students as they do to any students.  We are not a degree granting body and so can only issue a Certificate of Completion which will include the student’s grade.

C.E.L.A understands each college or university reserves the right to decide which transfer credits to approve.  We have established an additional partnership with Jacksonville University, in the US, as an alternative for students who must have a US university transfer the course credits.  Additional fees are associated with registering as a Jacksonville University student for CELA courses, covering application and tuition fees.  Transcripts will be issued from Jacksonville University for students transferring credits to their home institutions.  Please let the Program Director know if you are planning to register as a Jacksonville student when you start the application process.

Scholarship and Funding Ideas

Want to study abroad but not sure if you can afford it? You are not alone! Whilst studying abroad gives you an appreciation for the world outside of your home country, grows your character and confidence, gives you great opportunities, many still worry about paying off student debt in the future. Thankfully there are a couple of options you can pursue that may make that trip of a lifetime a little bit more affordable.

  • APVMA
    APVMA Scholarship

C.E.L.A Belize will sponsor two scholarships for APVMA members in each period (winter and summer). Each scholarship has a value of 50% of the regular cost of a single course or full program. A full program means two (2) courses (for a scholarship value of approximately $2500). Students can choose among any courses offered. Additional charges (late arrival/early departure, extra transcripts, credit from a U.S. college/university, etc.) will be charged directly to the student at their full price. • Gilman Scholarship
    Gilman International
    Scholarship

The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. Who can apply The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are planning to study abroad. The program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go by supporting undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. • Crowd Funding
    Crowd Funding

So if a scholarship opportunity didn't work out, you can turn to many internet crowd funding sites to try and raise funds. If somebody can raise $6k for potato salad, who knows what you might be able to achieve.
There are of course other crowd funding options such as indigogo and many more, so go on, get creative, get social and we'll see you soon.
